Leveraging Union of Subspace Structure to Improve Constrained Clustering

چکیده
Many clustering problems in computer vision and other contexts are also classification problems, where each cluster shares a meaningful label. Subspace clustering algorithms in particular are often applied to problems that fit this description, for example with face images or handwritten digits. While it is straightforward to request human input on these datasets, our goal is to reduce this input as much as possible. We present an algorithm for active query selection that allows us to leverage the union of subspace structure assumed in subspace clustering. The central step of the algorithm is in querying points of minimum margin between estimated subspaces; analogous to classifier margin, these lie near the decision boundary. This procedure can be used after any subspace clustering algorithm that outputs an affinity matrix and is capable of driving the clustering error down more quickly than other state-ofthe-art active query algorithms on datasets with subspace structure. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithm on several benchmark datasets, and with a modest number of queries we see significant gains in clustering performance.

متن کاملRobust Multi-subspace Analysis Using Novel Column L0-norm Constrained Matrix Factorization
We study the underlying structure of data (approximately) generated from a union of independent subspaces. Traditional methods learn only one subspace, failing to discover the multi-subspace structure, while state-of-the-art methods analyze the multi-subspace structure using data themselves as the dictionary, which cannot offer the explicit basis to span each subspace and are sensitive to error...
متن کاملHuman Action Attribute Learning From Video Data Using Low-Rank Representations
Representation of human actions as a sequence of human body movements or action attributes enables the development of models for human activity recognition and summarization. We present an extension of the low-rank representation (LRR) model, termed the clustering-aware structure-constrained low-rank representation (CS-LRR) model, for unsupervised learning of human action attributes from video ...
متن کاملExploiting Non-local Low Rank Structure in Image Reconstruction
Constrained image models based on linear dependence are commonly used in high dimensional imaging and computer vision to exploit or extract structure, which can be expressed with low rank matrix approximations. Natural images also have a self-similarity property, where features tend to repeat themselves all over the image, and linear dependence relationships may be non-local. To exploit non-loc...
متن کاملSparse Subspace Clustering via Diffusion Process
Subspace clustering refers to the problem of clustering high-dimensional data that lie in a union of lowdimensional subspaces. State-of-the-art subspace clustering methods are based on the idea of expressing each data point as a linear combination of other data points while regularizing the matrix of coefficients with `1, `2 or nuclear norms for a sparse solution. `1 regularization is guarantee...
